Mina Esfandiari, photographer and author, spent 30 days on the German Unity Cycle Route and travelled over 1,200 kilometres from Bonn to Berlin. Her richly illustrated travelogue about this journey from West to East is an open invitation to discover the deeply symbolic route through well-known and lesser-known German-German cities and landscapes, as well as to get acquainted with the people encountered along the way.
In a talk with the writer and presenter Guy Helminger, Mina Esfandiari tells of the hospitality with which she was received when couchsurfing or camping, in the East as in the West, and of animated discussions on the question which prodded her at the outset of her adventure tour: given 30 years of German Unity, have we become one people?
