Plurilingual writer: translating yourself or not? with Tullio Forgiarini (LU)
The 2021 edition of the Brussels Book Fair is taking place in two separate steps: a week of online professional meetings from 22nd to 27th February, and encounters with the readers from 6th to 16th May. The European Book Conference (24th February) and the Translation Day are among the highlights. The translating and editorial practices and issues related to multilingualism will be central to the discussions of this day.
Building on the excellent cooperation with the Embassy of Luxembourg in Brussels, member of the EUNIC cluster, the Grand Duchy is represented in this context by the Luxembourgish author Tullio Forgiarini as one of the participants in the panel “Plurilingual writer: translating yourself or not?” taking place on Thursday 25th February 2021 at 12pm.
In multilingual countries, many authors are indeed fluent in several languages. Thus, they will first have to decide what language they will be writing in. But often this raises also the question if they will be translating their own works or if they prefer leaving this up to another translator.
