Pierre Joris is a Luxembourg-American poet, translator, anthologist and essayist. He was born in Strasbourg, France on July 14, 1946 and raised in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg. He left Luxembourg at nineteen and since then has lived in the US, Great Britain, North Africa and France. In 1992 he returned to New York, first the state, where he taught poetry and poetics at SUNY-Albany until 2012, but also, since 2008, to New York City. When not on the road, he lives in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn with his wife, painter, singer and multimedia artist Nicole Peyrafitte.

In 2020, he was awarded the Batty Weber Price for the literary quality, the distinctiveness and the cultural reach of his complete works.
